Following the steps of Saint Benedict

Day 1: Arrival in Nursia during the afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay in a ***hotel.

Day 2: Morning visit of Nursia, the town where S. Benedict was born. The fortifications, the Piazza with the Saint's church, his house…all of these sights give this trip an extremely interesting profile. We'll be leaving for Castelluccio in the early afternoon. This Umbrian valley, which is situated   1452 meters above the sea level, dominates the region with its magnitude and its uncontaminated beauty. Castelluccio is worldwide famous due to its green lentils production. Before getting back to the hotel, we'll have dinner in a very particular restaurant whose main menu propositions are based on local delicacies such as cold cuts and truffles. Overnight stay.

Day 3: We'll be leaving for Rome in the morning. Our visit will be dedicated to the search of Benedict's path, proceeding to S. Francesca's Basilica, where a painting of the saint is currently kept. S. Paolo fuori le Mura, its statue and much more will be telling us about Benedict's life in Rome. During the afternoon we'll be heading to Fiuggi, where we'll have dinner and accommodation in a ***hotel.

Day 4: Morning departure to Affile, the town where Benedict found a shelter while escaping from Rome, refusing himself to accept the bribery and corruption that ruled the city. We'll be visiting S. Pietro's church, where Benedict operated his first miracle. Later on, we'll be moving on to Subiaco, the place where the saint lived in a cave (Sacro Speco) over a three year period, dedicating his time to prayer and living as a hermit. The foot-marks of S. Francis, who came here during his pilgrimage, are also to be seen. We'll then be visiting the Abbey and S. Scolastica's (Benedict's sister) convent. Dinner, overnight stay.

Day 5: Today we'll be visiting two of the most beautiful abbeys that were historically founded by Benedict. Casamari's Abbey, built 1550 and Trisulti's certosa, which is hidden between the mountains and which still perfectly preserves its 17th century apothecary shop. Electrical energy is powered by the same water that flows abundantly in this area. Accommodation in half-board solution.

Day 6: Morning departure to Montecassino, where Benedict built the Benedictine's mother house, year 547, and where the precept "Ora et Labora" was elaborated. He died 547, and his mortal remains, together with his sister's ones, are kept here. Accommodation in half-board.

Day 7: Breakfast and departure.
